POPROCKS presents Violens and The King Left!!!!

April 26th, 2009
Bowery Poetry Club
2pm

Prepare yourself to see Violens and The King Left perform live in a setting you never expected to see them before. POPROCKS are family friendly concerts that invite hip mom and dads to take their kids with them to concerts that present top-notch indie artists and bands so they can interact altogether in a new musical environment. Kids have the opportunity to participate in a jam session with artists, which makes the whole experience very entertaining to both parents and kids.

VIOLENS

With synths that contrast rosy melodies and ornament speculating messages described in their lyrics, Violens made "Violent Sensation Descends" a phenomenon that spread within the blog scene and indie magazine reviews with the same effectiveness as a mortal virus. This New York-via Miami group of four recreates sounds that need to be touched and images that need to be heard, it is all part of the great play of the fantastic. An international class act, Violens proposes a reminiscence of 1960's British indie scene as a hallmark of their personality. They have recently opened for such bands as MGMT, Grizzly Bear and Deerhunter.

THE KING LEFT

Former upstate NY film students made a sweet career move and got together to create a band that is rapidly making history through the always crowded indie world: The King Left. They've already broken CMJ top 100 twice with songs "I Have to Let You Win (Stop Trying)" and "The Storm in a Teacup". Also, they've been listed in The Deli Magazine's top 10 of Emerging NYC Artists of 2008 and "Best Unsigned Bands" by Alternative Press. Their catchy appealing rock tunes have drawn the attention of bands like Tokyo Police Club and We Are Scientists.

Bowery Poetry Club Singer/Songwriter series!!

Finally, this Saturday March 14th the Singer/Songwriter series begin at Bowery Poetry Club!!

Check out Haale, Fionn O'Lochlainn, Heather Christian and DJ sets by King sponsored by Pasita Wine Bar. There'll be a free wine tasting!

10pm Heather Christian
11pm Haale
12pm Fionn O'Lochlainn

Haale's music consists of a blend of psychedelic rock, persian rythms, and deep thoughts that will blow your mind. Creative, artful, poetic and mature, Haale majestically combines the richness of different backgrounds and draws a mystical environment that almost seduces you into a hypnotic state of mind. Like a serpent that gracefully makes its way even through the most arid climates, Haale achieves with "No Ceiling" the status of "one of this year's most memorable releases": Boston Globe. Outstanding collaborations inlcude: Matt Kilmer (percussion) and Brent Arnold (cello).

Fionn O'Lochlainn is a guitar genius of the current generation. In a world where pop music is filled with electronic sounds and almost anything can be accomplished with a computer handy, Fionn tears apart the concept of conventional and delivers music that is so sparkling and refreshing that you'll definitelly crave for more. Accompanied with acoustic guitar, piano and mandola, he metamorphoses any stage into a theater play where emotions, characters and plot define themselves along with the sound of his velvety voice. He aesthetically epitomizes the new spirit of classic rock, soul and folk.

Most certainly, there is a killer left: Heather Christian. She is the one who'll break your heart. She is the one who'll grab your soul and scratch it, break it, fold it and then put it back together again. With her voice as innocent and immaculate as a hummingbird, she'll explore the toughest array of conducts displayed within human nature. Today you might find her singing of love, tomorrow of death. This ability in Christian to go charmingly to the places where others rather not, makes her an intimate delight to follow. If you listen to her, the only condition is that you let yourself give in a little, and maybe even listen to your own heart singing along with her almost classic piano.

And last but not least, DJ King will perform between sets. She is also the lead vocalist of Savoir Adore and plays a lot of 60's pop and French singers, as well as alternative 90's (Cocteau Twins) and newer artists like Blonde Redhead, Beck, etc. She recently performed early in the night of French Horn Rebellion shows.

Don't miss out Public Assembly this Saturday March 7th!

We're less than a week away from our third showcase at Public Assembly and wanted to share the line up with you:

March 7th @ Public Assembly
10 pm Jones Street Station
11 pm The Loom
12 pm Creaky Boards
1 am The Bloodsugars

Also, starting Sunday April 26th we'll start our kid concert series named "POPROCKS". The idea is to feature some of the most engaging and vital artists in indie music and comedy. These all ages shows are designed to bring families together to enjoy new music. Artists perform original (not specifically made for children) songs in a manner that is both authentic and kid-friendly. So if you've always wished you could just take your kids to the concert instead of troubling yourself finding the nanny, here's your chance! Besides, this is an opportunity to interact more closely with the bands, more than you would typically do in a regular concert, isn't it?

POPROCKS concert will be held at Bowery Poetry Club in Manhattan at 2pm. The line up is still being discussed for the upcoming show on 4/26...
